Hi! I’m Katrina! So glad you stopped by Jewels in the Rough for a little visit! I hope you find something here that will encourage you, teach you, or make you laugh. This blog was born out of a desire to teach and to share life’s simple pleasures and extraordinary moments. I have been so lucky to share life with several great mentors. What jewels they have been! Teaching me. Loving me. Smacking me when necessary…but mostly loving me and teaching me. They will never know the impact they have had on me. They have taught me so much about life, love, motherhood, and more. Their lives model for me my great aspirations of becoming the iconic Proverbs 31 woman. If you’re not familiar with the Proverbs 31 woman, click here: Proverbs 31. And so I would like to pass on these lessons to you. I would love to stand here (okay I’m for sure not standing here typing, but you get the point) and tell you I have it all figured out, but I am the epitome of a jewel in the rough. This little lady has a long way to go and much to learn! So won’t you pull up a comfy seat and join me on this journey of life? And please do leave your comments! I love hearing from jewels and would love to learn from you! But first, here’s a bit about me:

Katrina Drieman:

First and foremost, I am a follower of Christ. I strive every day to look a little more like the one I follow. I am for sure a diamond in the rough here. I might look a little dirty, and maybe even downright scrappy on the outside, but I’m learning to shimmer and shine on the inside! Isn’t that what’s really important anyway? Note: I do however really like sparkly things.

I’m a wife of nine years (didn’t we literally just walk down the aisle?) to a muy fabulous man of many talents. He’s got a big heart and a deep mind, which is super fun to explore. He’s pretty good-looking too. I love my man.

I’m mother to three gorgeous little girls and a sweet little boy. Little Miss is six and Boo Bear is four. Mr. Mister recently turned three. Baby Girl is still pretty new at life with only one year and some change under her belt. What ever did I do to deserve these precious little bundles of joy? Little Miss is deep and creative. While Boo Bear is outgoing and courageous. Mr Mister is ALLLLLLL BOY! Yes little boys are made of puppy dog tails…and spiders, and frogs, and more rambunctious energy that I know what to do with! Baby Girl loves to explore and loves to climb. She is always on the move. So I spend a good portion of my day chasing my tiniest bundle of joy all over the house! I’m very excited to add the title “home school mom” to my list. First grade starts now!

I’m a crafting junkie! Note to self: spend less time on pintrest so you have more time to create! My first crafting love was sweets. This girl loves to make a cookie too ‘purdy’ to eat. Birthday cakes, shower cakes, and wedding cakes soon followed. I also have a blast taking random artifacts of junk and creating a thing of beauty or use. I think this hobby was born out of lack of money! Sewing is still on my list of things to learn. It’s not that I haven’t been taught. I just have to get proficient enough to load the bobbin without destroying the sewing machine. I should really get that fixed! I can however crochet a mean double stitch. My mom and YouTube are great teachers! I thank them both for all of the cute things I am now able to make for my baby girl.

I am  chef…in training! I enjoy the culinary arts. They don’t always enjoy me. Sometimes I scratch my head and wonder how the coleslaw taste more like a salt block than it does cabbage??? Obviously I am a work in progress and always looking for new ideas.

I am a thrill seeker. If it be a bungee jump over the Zambezi or a leap from a plane, count me in! Although to jump from a plane on one’s first time in the air might be a little crazy. I should really post that video. The wild and crazy inspire me, especially when done with those crazy people I love so much!

I am a student of life. Mostly because I have neither the time nor the funds for grad school at the moment. I love learning! Hands on education is the best! Maybe it’s a dance class. Or it could be a gardening show on HGTV. Or who knows, maybe it’s just the latest edition of national geographic in the waiting room. Either way. I’m happy!

I’m a chronic DIYer!!! Sometimes I get the feeling that creating absolutely everything from scratch is not optimal for myself or those around me. It always seems like a good idea at the time (eh hum tea bag tan), but doesn’t always end in the manner which I would like it to. Don’t get me wrong. At times the end result is glorious and I feel so empowered! But there are always those projects that end in a laugh. Later. Sometimes the laugh is days or weeks later. Usually about the time my skin is no longer a weird shade of Lipton earl grey.

So there you have it. That’s me in a nutshell!

And I would love to hear from you! As much as I love showing you my world, I also want to hear about yours! Please comment on post that interest you or send me a message to let me know more about you!

And if you like what you see, please share this blog with your friends!
